Magpie Monthly: Vol. 4
New Logo Alert: Dust Bunny Collection
Earlier this month, I wrapped up this adorable, vibrant new branding for Dust Bunny Collection, a size-inclusive vintage clothing shop.
My goal was to create an eye-catching and memorable logo that would stand out from the crowd. I also wanted it to have the flexibility to suit lots of situations from tags to signage, and room to evolve as the business evolves. My client, Heather Platz, has a fantastic aesthetic sense, and her love of primary colors, bold shapes and funky type factored heavily into the final look.
My favorite part of creating a logo is the idea phase, so I've included my sketches and unused concepts so you can see the full range of options.
If you or someone you know has a brand design project in mind, I'm currently booking projects for July and August.
Featured Collection: Joker Cards
Despite having no particular interest in card games, I started collecting joker cards around 2018. The variety of illustration styles and conventions is astounding. They span the full gamut: cute, funny, silly, zany, weird, a little creepy, and completely deranged. The vast majority of my collection comes from thrift store card decks, with a few that were gifted, and a handful from eBay.
I’ve included 18 of my favorites for your viewing pleasure, and you can view the full collection of 150+ here.

More Stickers Have Landed!
My third sticker release is here! Roller skates! Gummy bears! Pigeons!!! What else could you possibly want? What's that? You also want mix tapes, trinkets and a sticker sheet that takes you right back to your Highlights days? Well my friend, you're in luck.
I'm still figuring out what the heck I'm doing with this whole sticker thing, aside from having a lot of fun, which is my main goal. For now it's less of a viable business and more of a hobby that mostly pays for itself, but I'm planning to release new stickers every-other month until I run out of ideas or money. If there are any stores in your area that you think should carry my stickers, you can share my wholesale shop with them, or send me a link to their website/instagram and I'll reach out.
Whatever size and shape this takes in the future, I am very grateful for each and every order in the present.
LIL' PEEK: 2024 MAGPIE JOURNAL
Finally finished my 2024 magpie journal, halfway through 2025. Sometimes life demands flexibility ;-) I'll be sharing all 52 pages in next month's newsletter...
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: COCO DOWLEY
I'm excited to include a new section in my newsletter, and you may be relieved to see is NOT about me, lol. So many artists delight and inspire me on a regular basis, and I want to share them with you.
Without further ado, here's a peek into the whimsical, wholly original, entirely charming world of Coco Dowley. (P.S. If you enjoy her work, you'll love her newsletter - it's so refreshing and full of creativity.)
What I’m Reading
Here are two of my favorite reads from May. Connect with me on Goodreads to see the rest.
SEA WIFE
by Amity Gage
A couple and their two young children spend a year at sea. Absolutely nothing about that premise is appealing to me, and yet I loved this book. Therein lies magic of Amity Gage. Written from the POV of the wife Juliet, interpolated with excerpts from the husband Michael's captain's log, this exquisitely written novel with a hint of suspense was impossible to put down.
AUDITION
by Katie Kitamura
"One woman, the performance of a lifetime. Or two. A mesmerizing Mobius strip of a novel that asks who we are to the people we love." This high-concept, beautifully-written novel will leave you with more questions than answers, and you'll still be glad you read it.
